A study published in May 2018 by aggregator platform Nestpick breaks them down. San Francisco is the number one city in the world for entrepreneurial millennials based on based on factors such as startup ecosystem, and employment.
The table below reveal the top 20 cities for entrepreneurial millennials based on their Business Ecosystem:
Ömer Kücükdere, managing director of Nestpick, says: “Millennials grew up in a shrinking world, where the internet opened doors their parents never could have dreamed of, and budget airlines made those avenues real possibilities. It’s now possible to live and work anywhere in the world, and these opportunities are shaping how our planet will look to future generations.
He continues: “We must learn to adapt to the needs of younger people in order to have a thriving economy, and we believe that this ranking offers valuable insights to those cities looking for regeneration from a younger demographic.”
Some other highlights from the study include:
- Beijing ranks highest for employment followed by San Francisco and Austin and San Francisco.
- New York City has the highest score for best startup ecosystem followed by San Francisco, USA, London and UK.
- Hong Kong ranks highest for tourism
- Guadalajara has the highest score for housing
- Oslo has the highest score for transport
The top 20 best millennial cities from the larger study are revealed below. Scores are from 1 - 10, with 10 indicating the highest possible score. The results for each 17 criteria have been combined into four main categories for clarity, but the full results can be seen here:
Oliver Williams, head of consultancy WealthInsight, says US cities typically have a strong number of millennial millionaires in a separate piece of research published in November 2017.
Williams says: “The west coast of the US features strongly on this list thanks to the tech startup culture found around Los Angeles, San Jose, San Diego and San Francisco. These areas are also home to some of the world’s largest companies such as Alphabet and Apple, which offer big pay packages for skilled millennials.”
