Me, myself and PBI
After the best part of a decade, this is my final editor’s letter for Private Banker International. And for those of you that are fans of switching rates, I will now have officially changed publications more than bank accounts. It has been an exciting decade for financial services, perhaps more evolutionary and explosive than the previous hundred years combined. Then again, I’ve never been one for exaggeration. The amount of trends that have come and gone: robo-advisers, the metaverse, ESG, impact investing, AI, biometrics, etc. I look forward to the bank branch inside a flying car or intergalactic forex. One thing that has remained constant, strangely, is change. Clients’ needs are ever in flux and the private banking sector is always sprinting to catch up. The advent of AI may change that, but when it comes to millions, if not billions, you want to speak to a person. That will never change. My thanks to all the readers and contributors over the years, this magazine could not survive without you. A big shout out to my fellow editors and reporters at the firm over the year, whether in the office or locked down, you were always a crucial advantage for me.

Here’s to the next ten years of wealth management. Maybe by the end, I’ll actually qualify for it.
